In Alabama, state law requires an Alabama resident who owns a motor vehicle to obtain a title for motor vehicles that are not more than thirty-five (35) model years old. No title records are required to be maintained by the Department of Revenue for any motor vehicle more than thirty-five (35) model years old. Application for title is made to the Alabama Department of Revenue in Montgomery through the Probate Office or other designated agent such as an auto dealer. If you apply for title through this office, we will prepare the application for you. Application fee is $18.00. The application process will be easier if you’re aware of Revenue Department requirements for your particular situation, and time consuming delays may be avoided. Please help us to serve you better by being prepared to meet "State Requirements" when you apply for title.
