Historic Bicentennial Park features restored 19th and 20th-century structure, historic landscapes, and natural beauty that reflect the lives of the people who settled and shaped Baldwin County.

Visitors are invited to explore the park through tours, special events, and educational programs designed to bring Baldwin County history to life.

Upon arrival, all guests should visit the Welcome Center.

About the Park

Bicentennial Park was established through the vision of the Baldwin County Commission to commemorate the county's 200th anniversary in 2009. A 367-acre property was dedicated to preserving Baldwin County history while providing educational and recreational opportunities for residents and visitors. The Baldwin County Bicentennial Park is dedicated to preserving the county’s rich cultural heritage and leaving a historical legacy for future generations.

The property includes:

• Delta Wetlands
• Hardwood and Pine Forests
• Historic landscapes connected to early settlement, agriculture, and logging

Located just south of Stockton along Highway 225, the park also sits along the Underground Railroad National Bicycle Route, making it a destination for both history enthusiasts and outdoor recreation.

The Park consists of a Hike and Bike Trail and is open to the public and tourists visiting for other opportunities. 

History of the Park

The land that is now Bicentennial Park reflects centuries of Baldwin County history.

Archaeological evidence indicates that Native American cultures occupied portions of the property during the late Woodland Period. Artifacts recovered during excavations conducted by the University of South Alabama suggest the presence of early indigenous communities in the area.

During the British colonial period, the land was part of Farmar Plantation, owned by Major Robert Farmar. Naturalist William Bartram visited the region in 1775 and documented the area's plant life.

In 1811, Joshua Kennedy commissioned the construction of  a mill along nearby Rains Creek, though the settlement was later abandoned due to conflict during the Creek War period.

During the post-Civil War era, the property became part of the South Alabama logging industry. Rail spurs once transported timber across the property to nearby waterways.

Today, the park preserves the landscape and stories that reflect the many cultures and historical events that shaped Baldwin County.

Future Vision for the Park

In 2025, the Baldwin County Commission approved a comprehensive Master Plan to guide the continued development and preservation of Historic Bicentennial Park.

The plan establishes a long-term vision for expanding historical interpretation, improving visitor amenities, and enhancing educational opportunities while preserving it's natural beauty.

Future enhancements will continue to strengthen the park as a destination where residents and visitors can experience the rich history of Baldwin County.

Before Your Visit

• Stay with immediate household members only. Recreation with those outside of your household creates new avenues for virus transmission.

• Staff will clean the facilities and replenish supplies as least once daily (subject to the availability of all supplies). 

• Come prepared. You are advised to bring your own soap, water, hand sanitizer and toilet paper, as well as a mask or bandana to cover your nose and mouth.

• Enjoy the outdoors when healthy. If you have symptoms of fever, coughing or shortness of breath, save your outdoor adventure for another day.

When You Get There

• Avoid crowds. Be prepared to go somewhere else or come back another time if your destination looks crowded.

• Practice physical distancing. Keep 6 feet between you and those outside your immediate household.

• Wash your hands often. Keep up on personal hygiene and bring your own water, soap and hand sanitizer with you. 

• Pack out what you pack in. Take any garbage with you, including disposable gloves and masks.

• Be kind and respectful to our park staff and to one another.

Then complete the Bicentennial Park Reservation Form located on the Left Navigation Bar as well. The information will come directly to our department for processing.
