Payton joined the Planning and Zoning Department in November of 2016. His primary responsibilities include assisting in the implementation of the Baldwin County Zoning Ordinance, conducting zoning compliance reviews, interacting with the public, and providing staff support to the Department's satellite office in Foley.

Before graduating from Northeastern University, he worked for Boston Harbor Now (previously known as The Boston Harbor Association) as a Research/Design Associate & Climate Fellow where he organized and designed informational exhibits in conjunction with the Boston Living with Water international design competition along with initiating community outreach programs to assess neighborhood vulnerability to coastal flooding. He became certified as an Alabama Planning and Zoning Official through the University of North Alabama in April 2017.
