Baldwin County, Alabama has received confirmation of an Aa1 GOLT (General Obligation Limited Tax) rating from Moody’s Rating (Moody’s) and of an AA+ rating from Standard & Poor’s (S&P). Both ratings are the highest assigned in the High-Grade Credit Ratings scale.

Walk and Roll to School Day events raises awareness for the need to create safer routes for walking and bicycling and emphasizes the importance of issues such as increasing physical activity among children, pedestrian safety, traffic congestion, and concern for the environment. On May 1st, 2024, participating schools in Baldwin County will come together for this initiative.

The Baldwin County Commission executed a contract on March 5, 2024, with MB3 Inc. doing business as Civix for the Planning Phase of the Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) Sub-award for Baldwin County Commission in the amount of $370,081.00.

Effective immediately, the Baldwin County Highway Department will be restricting the weight limit of the Scenic 98 bridge adjacent to the Grand Hotel Resort & Spa to 20 tons. The new weight restriction will still allow use by passenger vehicles, school buses, and small box trucks, but will restrict use by larger vehicles such as 18-wheelers, dump trucks, concrete trucks, and other heavy vehicles. Larger vehicles that need access to Scenic 98 south of the bridge can do so via Section Street and/or US Highway 98 to County Road 32 west.

The Baldwin County Commission’s Department of Council on Aging had a busy, yet successful Medicare Open Enrollment season which lasted from October 15, 2023, through December 7, 2023. During this time, the Council on Aging reported a 28% increase in clients with savings and a 95% increase in the amount of savings when compared to the 2022 Medicare Open Enrollment numbers.

Due to the growth in Baldwin County and the effect it has had on many of the County’s existing polling locations, the Baldwin County Commission adopted Resolution #2024-020 in November 2023, which approved various changes to County polling locations ahead of the 2024 state-wide elections.

Beginning on, or around Friday, January 22, 2024, the United States Department of Agriculture, Wildlife Services (USDA - WS) will begin the distribution of approximately 218,820 coated sachet baits containing RABORAL V-RG® oral rabies vaccine (ORV) across a 1,599 square-mile bait zone in Southwest Alabama, targeting raccoons and other wildlife.

The Baldwin County Commission has been awarded a Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) Grant by the Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) to construct a new freestanding pedestrian bridge on the Eastern Shore Trail near the Grand Hotel in Point Clear.
