The Archives and History Department and the individuals who perform this task are of major importance to
county residents...The goal of the county Archives program is to properly care for, and manage the
information and records in our care that are necessary for the county government to conduct its
business. Many of our records are accessible on the online portal. If you have questions about our
collections and how to research them, call us at (251) 580-1897 or send a message to

The Baldwin County Archives are housed in the Tolbert M. Brantley Building located at 305 East 2nd
Street in Bay Minette, named in honor of former County Attorney and long-time Bay Minette lawyer
whose dedication to the establishment of a dedicated archives facility led to the present Department of
Archives and History.
Mission Statement
The primary mission is the collecting and preserving of archives, documents, and artifacts relating to the history of Baldwin County.
Core Values: Stewardship, Collaboration, Innovation, Engagement
Stewardship - We are responsible to make accessible to the public, authentic, trusted, and reliable recorded information needed for accountability, identity, research, and celebration.
Collaboration - We collaborate across professions and disciplines with those who also have responsibilities for the county's recorded information. We promote a better understanding of the management of the County's recorded information to members of the community to ensure its responsible creation, use, and disposition.
Innovation: We embrace, support, and pursue new ways of managing all recorded information in all forms and facilitating access to it. We take pride in promoting innovation and adaptation to change.
Engagement - We engage with the community to broaden an understanding of the County's past and promote openness and access to information while protecting the privacy of record subjects. We engage with researchers who want to access our archives for teaching, learning, research, and community building. We engage with prospective donors of archives to acquire and make available for public use unique, unpublished, recorded information.
Preserving and Sharing the Legacy of Baldwin County!
Family Photographs provide a window into the past and reveal many details about our ancestors and where we come from. Photographs document the way the family home looked, the clothes grandma wore, your resemblance to Uncle Frank, and the heirlooms proudly handed down through many generations. Photographs help us to understand who we are by illuminating those who came before us. We need to preserve these photographs to enable future generations to enjoy the pleasures of seeing the past.
If you have family photos and genealogy information, stop by our office, Monday-Friday between the hours of 9:00 am and 3:00 pm. This will also allow you to tour the facility and learn about the collections as well!
