All Notary Publics will be commissioned “State at Large”

The Notary Bond requirement increased from $25,000 to $50,000 effective September 1, 2023.

Fees:

$10.00 Non-refundable Application Fee (must be submitted with the application)

$66.00 Filing Fee (must be submitted with the bond and training certificate)

Steps in obtaining Notary Public:

  1. Complete the Notary Public Application.
  2. Submit the application, a copy of your Alabama driver license or ID, and the $10 non-refundable application fee to: Judge of Probate.
  3. Complete the required Notary Training within 30 days of the date of application.
  4. Probate Judge will send applicant an appointment letter upon approval.
  5. Applicant must take appointment letter to an insurance company to obtain a Notary Public Bond for $50,000.
  6. Applicant must submit the bond, the training certificate, and the $66 filing fee within 40 days of the date of the letter of appointment. Please note: Before filing the bond with the court, you must sign on both principal lines and your signature must be notarized. DO NOT enter a commission date on the bond. This information must be completed by the court.
  7. Bond will be recorded by Judge of Probate office.
  8. Notary Public certificate and a billfold card stating applicant’s commission date and expiration date, will be sent to applicant by mail.
  9. Applicant is responsible for obtaining a notary seal and stamp.

Please note: Notary applications can either be mailed to the Probate office in Bay Minette or taken to one of our offices. If taken to a satellite Probate office (Fairhope, Foley, or Robertsdale), it will be couriered to the Bay Minette location. Recording clerks cannot answer questions relating to the notary application. Applications must be in a sealed envelope when dropped off.
