Inspection FAQs

When/How do I get a Certificate of Occupancy?

A Certificate of Occupancy (C.O.) is issued only for new construction and changes of use. No building may be occupied without an approved C.O.

A C.O. will not be issued until all required permits have been obtained, all necessary documents are on file, and a final building inspection has been approved. For zoned properties, a final site inspection by the Planning and Zoning Department may also be required.

Please do not expect the C.O. to be issued on the same day as the final inspection. Allow up to two business days after the final inspection approval for processing and issuance. The C.O. will be sent via email to the permit holder.

*Notes:

  • C.O.s are issued for newly constructed buildings.
  • C.O.s are issued for buildings undergoing a change of use (e.g., an office converted into a restaurant)
  • C.O.s are not issued for additions, alterations, repairs, accessory structures, manufactured homes, or modular buildings.
